About the residency
Murasaki Penguin (Anna Kuroda and David Kirkpatrick), together with dancer Kei Ikeda, will explore techniques for pushing the boundaries of dimensionality, particularly depth, in our dance and multimedia practice.
We have found much of the impact from our past work revolves around architecture and feel of space – the venue itself, the city and surrounding environment. We feel it is important to our future direction to spend a period of time solely dedicated to understanding our current use of dimensionality and ways in which we can develop and expand this core element of our work.

During this DAIR residency we aim to break dimensionality down and approach it from two key perspectives. Physically, we will work with speed, positioning, rotation, aspect and persistence of vision in dance. Technically, we will focus on projection onto dancers and staging without flattening the space or the dancers’ movement within it, a current limitation of much tracking and projection technology.
