One work based on a moment and place. Another, a narrow but endless space.

International collaborative production between Murasaki Penguin (Japan and Australia) and Yu-Feng Lai (Taiwan). Embodying the movement of colours created by light and waves through dance. A double bill featuring ‘Dove Lake’, previously performed at Nibroll’s Dance Lab 2023, and new work ‘Aqua Line’.

Concept – Murasaki Penguin, Yu-Feng Lai
Dance – Yu-Feng Lai, Anna Kuroda
Sound, Visual, Lighting – David Kirkpatrick

Dove Lake (2023)
The water is blue from afar. On approach, amber. Rays of light reflect towards the sky and refract beneath. Leaves fall, submerge, decompose. Bubbles form and are drawn together, rising to the surface, travelling in an infinity mirror of thin lines defying wind and wave. 10 seconds later they are gone. Time is moving forward but I am thinking of someone in the past.

The work is based on a visit to Dove Lake in Tasmania, Australia by Kuroda in 2017, where she was inspired by a natural phenomenon of bubbles forming in orderly rows across the lake’s surface.

Aqua Line (2024)
Light from a sodium lamp flows slowly through a narrow but endless space, a one-lane highway towards eternity. Delicate ripples gently resonate, drifting between warmth and cold.
